Harsh conditions place high demands on motors.
Kilns are the largest energy consumers at sawmills and operate under very demanding conditions. Drying temperatures are usually below 90°C, but in some cases can reach up to 120°C. Such environments place extremely high demands on motors. Standard industrial motors are not suitable for use under these conditions.

These motors operate with rotor temperatures up to 30°C lower and bearing temperatures up to 15°C lower than comparable induction motors. This makes them an excellent solution for the tough conditions in drying facilities.

Due to the lower temperatures, winding insulation lasts four to eight times longer, and bearing grease life is doubled. The motors are manufactured in an environmentally friendly way without using components like permanent magnets, which require rare earth metals.

Thanks to their simple design, they do not require specialized workshops and are easy to maintain.

SynRM IE5 motors offer excellent partial load efficiency, and if the drying process allows, energy consumption can be significantly reduced by controlling power via frequency converters. ABB motors used in drying facilities also feature a special coating that protects the motor from the effects of the hot, humid, and corrosive environment.
