Crossflow heat exchangers are the simplest type for lumber kilns. Here, outgoing and incoming air streams meet, separated by stainless steel plates with a thickness of 0.3 mm.

We manufacture our own heat exchangers in stainless steel. Using stainless steel may seem unusual for a heat exchanger, but it’s the best choice since aluminium dissolves at higher falling temperatures.

To make aluminium heat exchangers work in lumber kilns, the surfaces must be painted. This reduces thermal conductivity, as the paint—made from plastic-like materials—does not conduct heat well. Cleaning the exchanger is also difficult without damaging the paint. If aluminium dissolves, incoming and outgoing air streams mix, reducing air exchange efficiency.
